Five months have passed since devastating floods struck Jangka District, Bireuen Regency, Aceh.
The water has receded.
The mud has dried.
The roads are passable again.
But for thousands of families whose homes were damaged, the disaster is far from over.
Today, the Chairman of Relawan Peduli Rakyat Lintas Batas (Volunteers Caring for People Across Borders), Arizal Mahdi, joined the BNPB disaster response team to conduct a re-assessment of more than 6,000 affected homes.
This re-assessment is essential to identify the level of damage, whether minor, moderate, or severe, and to strengthen recovery data so that assistance can be directed according to actual needs and reach the most vulnerable families.
Behind every damaged house, there is a family struggling to rebuild their lives.
For the past three days, teams have been going door to door, listening, documenting, and witnessing firsthand that recovery is not only about rebuilding structures.
It is about restoring human dignity.
We met mothers still cooking in cracked rooms because that is the only space left for their families.
We met fathers standing silently in front of broken roofs they cannot afford to repair.
We met children sleeping in unsafe and damaged spaces, trying to continue life with courage despite uncertainty.
We met elderly people living in fragile conditions.
We met women-led households carrying the burden of recovery alone.
We met persons with disabilities facing even greater barriers to recovery.
These are the most vulnerable.
And too often, they are the ones who wait the longest.
During the assessment process, many families broke into tears.
Not because of the flood itself.
But because five months later, someone finally came to listen.
To ask.
To understand.
To make sure they are not forgotten.
For many of these families, losing a home is not just losing a building.
It means losing safety.
Losing stability.
Losing the place where children should grow, learn, and feel protected.
Recovery does not end when the floodwaters disappear.
Recovery ends when families can live safely again.
When children can sleep without fear.
When the elderly can rest with dignity.
When vulnerable communities can rebuild their future.
Today, we call on humanitarian partners, donors, and compassionate individuals around the world to stand with the people of Jangka.
Your support will help provide essential family needs, shelter rehabilitation, household recovery support, protection for children and vulnerable groups, field operations for assessment and aid distribution, and long-term community recovery support.
Every contribution will be distributed based on verified field assessments and reported transparently to ensure accountability and trust.
More than 6,000 homes are still waiting for recovery.
More than 6,000 families are still waiting for certainty.
And thousands of children are still waiting for a safe place to call home again.
Disasters do not end when the waters go down.
For many families, the real struggle begins after the cameras leave.
Today, your solidarity can become their strength.
Your compassion can become their hope.
And your support can help rebuild not only homes, but lives.

Standing with the people, rebuilding hope.
